Guatemala Customs Information – Hercules Worldwide

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

  • Original passport with entry stamp
  • Valued inventory list in either Spanish or English; must be legible with no declared values
  • Advised to include a contact address

CUSTOMS REGULATIONS

  • YOUR PRESENCE IS REQUIRED IN ORDER FOR SHIPMENT TO CLEAR CUSTOMS
  • All household goods and personal items subject to customs taxes and duties. If no values indicated on document, customs will determine the value of shipment
  • Clearance at bonded warehouse recommended for surface shipments

PROHIBITED ITEMS

  • Ammunition and weapons
  • Narcotics
  • Legitimate colonial or archaeological articles

MOTOR VEHICLES

  • Customs will perform a physical inspection to verify make, model, year, engine size, serial number and accessories.
    • Luxury” accessories such as radio/cassette player, air conditioning, magnesium wheels and so on will result in very high duties.
  • Vehicles with foreign license plates may enter Guatemala with a temporary permit (lasts 30 days); but you cannot leave the country unless vehicle has been re-exported or all import duties have been paid.
  • Duties based on C.I.F. value and determined by customs
  • The following documents are required:
    • Original passport with entry stamp
    • Original title; this will be your proof of ownership.
    • Original Bill of Sale (2 copies) or invoice legalized by the Guatemalan Consulate in country of origin
    • Registration card
  • B/L invoice and proof of ownership documents require legalization from Guatemalan consulate in country of origin
