Egypt Customs Information – Hercules Worldwide
REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
- Original passport
- Original copy of work permit or application documents
- Customs bond
- Power of attorney or letter of guarantee
- Residence visa
- Inventory list identifying the number of pieces, cartons and the detailed contents of each
- Keys to any locked items
- Letter from employer directed to customs noting duration of customer’s stay and financial guarantees
- Certificate of residence change
- Telephone number and delivery address
CUSTOMS REGULATIONS
- Aid project, government and oil company personnel may ship household goods duty-free if a Letter of Guarantee is provided and submitted, approving the import and noting that the shipment will be re-exported.
- All household goods and personal items are dutiable to all those entering Egypt except those listed above.
- Shipments are subject to 100% inspection
RESTRICTED ITEMS/DUTIABLE
- Values are determined by customs; and any items not showing obvious signs of use may be taxed as new items
- Must obtain approval from the Ministry of Agriculture to import seeds and animals
- Toiletries
- Consumable items
- Alcohol is taxed at 3,000% plus 100% sales tax
- Compact software and hardware, photo copiers, answer phones, fax machines, printers, compact discs, video tapes, music cassettes and so one will be subject to censor screening.
- Make sure a user’s manual and or a complete descriptive brochure is on hand with any and all technical devices
- Telecommunication equipment and high frequency radios require a special permit
- ALL RECORDS, PRINTED MATTER, TAPES, FILMS, MOVIES, SLIDES, VIDEOS, COMPACT DISCS, COMPUTER SOFTWARE AND SO ON ARE SUBJECT TO CENSORSHIP AND CONFISCATION; IF THIS HAPPENS MATERIALS WILL BE HELD FOR APPROVAL BY THE MINISTRY OF CULTURE. THESE ITEMS MUST BE PACKED SEPARATELY FOR EASY ACCESS.
PROHIBITED ITEMS
- Medicine and drugs
- Pornographic materials
- Weapons, ammunition and firearms, daggers and swords
- Gold and silver (tableware allowed)
- Anti-Islamic religious materials
- Cordless telephones
- Resolution color printers and photocopiers
MOTOR VEHICLES
- Automobiles are highly taxed and regulated
- Requires a purchase invoice stating the price and vehicle specifications
- If over 3 years old, vehicle is prohibited
